Creative Role
Art Director, Designer, and Interaction lead for the game’s look and feel throughout the experience
Problem
Last Ingredient started as an academic 48 hour game creation competition at Texas A&M Chillenium. Our initial goal was to create a game that fit the prompt, "foofaraw".
Solution
With the time allotted, we decided to make a 2D platformer for computer systems using the Unity game engine. The game featured Owl and Foo, whom are trapped in an alternate reality where they have to get back home by finding the last ingredient.
Inspiration
Inspiration for the world and character building was taken from a variety of platform games. We focused on the vibrancy and character size in relation to the environments the most.
Sketches
Brainstorming took place to create the plot, character design, and level layout.
Structure
Before we could start planning out the levels and world building, we needed to create a user flow.
Logo
The logo referenced a spice container while also showing the environment and characters of the game.
Color Palette & Type
A base color palette was created as a guide for the artwork. Avenir was chosen as the typeface for its geometrical shapes.
Character & Game Assets
A vector style was adopted that used simplified shapes for ease of replication within the assets.
Intro
An intro comic was created to set up the scene and plot. The colors are on a different side of the palette to show the dynamic change from Foo and Owl's world and the new one they are thrown into.
